Want These Waves? Then you need these!

If you love luscious waves and covet the fab hair of Celebrity Hairnistas like Kim Kardashian, then flexible rods need to be the next addition to your hair arsenal. (more)

The video below gives the low-down on these easy to use rollers:

“Bendy hair curlers are made of a soft, flexible foam, which sits gently on the head to create voluminous curls. A basic rolling technique, which starts at the tip of the hair and works its way up to the scalp, and the right amount of tension will help you create that beautiful, bouncy head of hair using bendy hair curlers. These curlers are ideally suited to a slightly longer length of hair because they can remain secure on the head.

  1. Part your hair down the middle back of your head into two even sections. Drape each section of hair over your shoulder.
  2. Pull out a section of hair near the back of the head that measures between one to two inches, depending on the thickness of your hair. Thicker hair will require rolling smaller sections of hair, while you can roll finer hair in larger chunks.
  3. Brush the section of hair with a hairbrush from the roots to the tips. Spray with a setting product from root to tip. Be careful to only lightly spray the section, rather than drenching the hair.
  4. Place the bendy curler at the tip of the hair and tuck the tips under the bendy curler. Roll the curler up towards your scalp, keeping a steady tension between the hair roots and the curler.
  5. Bend the bendy curler into a "U" shape once the curler hits the scalp. Be sure that the bendy curler hits the scalp. If necessary, bend the curler into a complete "O" shape to hold loose hair in place.
  6. Allow hair to set for a few hours. The hair should be completely dry from the setting product before you remove the curlers. To remove the bendy curlers, unbend from the "O" or "U" shape and unwind. Once you have removed all of the bendy curlers, tousle the curls gently with your fingers. “

You can vary the size of the rods depending on the size of waves/curls you’re looking for.  These require no heat so there is no risk of damage to your hair or your hair extensions.  These rods at varying sizes can be found at your local Sunny’s starting at only $3.99.

Product Spotlight: Silicone Mix

With the stress of summer on your tresses under full effect, this product provides a magical barrier to protect from heat damage, chlorine and general dryness.

Silicon Mix is a favorite conditioner at most Dominican hair salons.

What they say: Silicon Mix contains Silicones, Keratin, Ceramides which soften, give strength and shine to hair, plus conditioning agents to protect and replenish your hair's natural moisture.

What we say:  It smells rather "perfumey"  And if it is a smell that you are not partial to, it won't be a hit because it is an overwhelming smell.  We rather enjoy the smell but what we really love is the penetrating moisture it offers.  It is the perfect product to combat frizziness and tangles, especially on Indian Hair that is about to reach it's expiration point.   I personally have been using Silicone Mix on a bundle of Natural Wave Indian hair that I purchased over a year ago.  It soothes the tresses with each conditioning session and allows me to keep on using this hair until the "wheels  fall off".

For the price you can't beat the power of this moisturizing conditioner.

Product Spotlight: Natural Wave Indian Hair

Something must be in the air...we can't keep enough of Virgin Natural Wave Indian Hair in stock as of late.  Women are loving the effortless waves that this hair offers but what people love is how easy it is to wear straight.  The waves allow the hair to retain natural texture so that it blends well with their own hair.

Tips on Natural Wave Indian Hair:

  • Keep it clean:  If you use a gentle sulfate free shampoo with this hair (we heart Global Keratin Moisturizing Shampoo)  then you can use a small amount of extremely lightweight conditioner which you should rinse completely off and don't use a lot of hairspray, gels, lotions or leave in conditioners
  • If you want to wear the hair wavy you will need to refresh the waves with water and a paddle brush daily.  Another option is to wear the hair in two braids at night to ensure the hair's cuticles don't get frayed in the evening.
  • Don't go to heavy on the heat if you want this hair to last.  A flat iron is all you need to get the hair straight.  So pick your heat, either do a blowout or let the hair air dry and flat iron when finished.

Denman Thermo Ceramic Straightening Brush

We can't claim that we discovered this but a Sunny's Girl put us onto this miracle in a brush.  The Denman Thermal Ceramic Brush uses natural boar bristles to smooth unruly tresses.   Our Sunny's Girl uses it to straighten her Indian Hair and her hair is flawless.  She swears by using the Denman brush in front of her FHI Runway flatiron and all it takes is one pass to deliver silky smooth straight hair that isn't too heat damaged.

Working out with your Weave

We heard the best news we have heard in years the other day.  Two women were in our Atlanta store and we overheard the following:

" My friend just got this Indian Hair months ago and she lost 140 pounds."

      " How?"

" She started working out, she got a full head weave with the Curly Indian Hair and she just started shedding the weight."

It was music to our ears.  Hair extensions really can change your hair...change your life.  By finding a low maintenance style that allows women to get on the treadmill, balance ball or swim you can transform your body and health.

  • If you are looking to shed some weight or meet your fitness goals we definitely recommend Curly Indian Hair with a full head sew in.  This allows all of your hair to be gently sewn away and with a textured bob with soft bangs you can push yourself to the limit and not worry about ruining your hairstyle.
  • For ladies who can't quite commit to a full head sew in, consider getting a weave with Indian Hair that is the same length or a little longer than your hair with just a 1/4 inch of hair left out along the perimeter and at the crown.
  • If you must leave more hair out than you should consider the latest craze of Brazilian Keratin Treatment.  This frizz reducing fortifying treatment allows for stronger hair that won't frizz at the first sign of sweat or water without permanently altering the hair structure.  BKT also protects the hair in the braids while you are working out.

Looks we Love: Kim Kardashian, LaLa and Ciara

The ultimate Sunny's Girl celebrated her birthday this past weekend in Las Vegas. What a stylish set of friend's she has.

To achieve LaLa and Ciara's look we'd recommend 10 ounces of Indian Hair Natural Wave in 22". To recreate their long big-barreled curls we'd blow out the Indian Hair and then using a lightweight hairspray such as AirControl by Aveda we'd use a 1" curling iron to create spiral curls and then set with pins to cool into the curls.

To recreate Kim Kardashian's ode to Sasha Fierce we'd use the ever so easy Lord & Cliff One Piece Clip In Extensions and clip it in towards the nape of the neck and crown area and secure that into a high ponytail. We'd tease the crown area to recreate the voluminous pump ponytail look.

Is it steamy in here? Indian Hair's Best Friend

We are in the midst of a summer heat wave around the country. We at Sunny's have indulged in frequent pool sessions and an occasional dip in the ocean. All this chlorine and salts can wreak havoc on our Indian Hair extensions.

Well we discovered our new favorite restorative treatment for our Indian Hair: Steam!!!

Steam treatments work to penetrate the hair shaft and deposit the much needed moisture that chlorine and salts strip.

After a long weekend of swimming and sweating we drenched our hair extensions with Portico White Ginger Revitalizing Conditioner and sat in a steam room for 30 minutes.

One word: Amazing.

Our Indian Hair bounced back to life and felt soft.

John Frieda Clear Shine Glaze + Indian Hair = LOVE

I am getting ready to reuse my Natural Wave Indian Hair for a third time and after seeing the results I got on my own hair after using John Frieda Collection Luminous Color Glaze Clear Glosser on my on own hair...I decided to try it on my Indian Hair.

Many stylists have told me that if you ever have problems with Indian hair tangling that a clear rinse calms the cuticle and revives your Indian hair.

I didn't have problems with my Natural Wave Indian Hair but it did revive my hair to look as new as the day it came out the package.

John Frieda Color Glaze is available at Target, Walgreens.com or check your local beauty supply for $9.99

Indian hair of course is available at Sunnyshair.com
